This presentation explores the concept of resilience as it applies to infrastructure and communities, highlighting how thoughtful, people-focused design can help societies anticipate and adapt to hazards. We will examine evolving codes and standards, showcase planning tools, and reference key resources from federal agencies and local jurisdictions. By sharing practical case studies and communication strategies, the presentation demonstrates how designers can implement best practices and innovative methodologies to deliver safer, more adaptable designs—reinforcing our commitment to advancing resilience for clients and communities.

Kevin has more than 20 years of structural experience working on projects ranging from small renovations to the tallest building in the world. His experience includes a variety of building types including hospitals, clinics, multistory office buildings, airports, performing arts centers and libraries.  As a member of the ASCE 7 Main Committee and the ASCE 7 Wind Load Subcommittee and secretary of the Performance-Based Wind Design task group, Kevin is involved in developing future code provisions and new methodologies to deliver a building that meets the owners' performance criteria.
