Masonry Specifications 101: Guide to Specifying Masonry Materials and Testing for General Construction
 
David Morlock, P.E., is the Technical Services Manager for TCC Materials, the leading Midwest producer of Concrete Block, Mortar and Grout. He will talk about specific building code requirements for masonry design and construction, especially as related to specifying masonry materials and dealing with field issues on test reports.
 
Learning Objectives:

  •  How masonry works as a structural system
  • How to specify the materials you want
  • Learn the difference between prescriptive specifications and performance specifications
  • How to review a manufacturer's submittal for masonry materials
  • How to specify and determine compliance in the field
  • How to interpret masonry field reports
  • Learn the current state of available raw materials and current manufacturing processes
  • Learn how the building code governs current masonry practices
 
 


Speaker Bio:
David Morlock is the Technical Services Manager at TCC Materials. He manages an AASHTO accredited laboratory in St. Paul, which supports R&D, QA, new product development, troubleshooting and other various technical activities in support of the TCC, Amcon and Cemstone group of companies. He serves as ACI Certifications Committee Chair for MN through the Minnesota Concrete Council as well as being Co-chair of the education committee. He served for over 20 years on the University of Minnesota Concrete Council Planning Committee. He is also the local instructor for ACI Masonry Lab and Field certifications. Prior to working for TCC Materials, he practiced as a Licensed Structural Engineer for Engineering Firms in Minnesota, Arizona and Nevada as the Engineer of Record for many projects over 20 years.
